Which Team Will My Child Be Placed On?
Safety Concerns Control
To minimize injuries, the all teams in the league divide teams up according to weight. (Please refer to the article listed under "General Information", at the "Is Football Safe?" link.)
Can My Player Choose To "Play Up" A Level?
No. The player's grade-level in school is not taken into account and players will not be allowed to play outside of their weight or age range. This is a safety issue. So, an older/lighter 11-year-old will not be allowed to "play up" at the Pee Wee level just to be with his friends.
Is There A Stigma Attached To Being An Older/Lighter Player?
No. This has not been an issue in the past. Players generally bond fairly quickly with their teammates regardless of age and there are often enough older/lighter players on the team so that they will not feel out of place. In reality, the older/lighter players often have a better experience as they are generally more advanced compared to their younger teammates. Older/lighter players are often looked to as leaders on the team and many of the top players in our program are older/lighter players.
Is There A Stigma Attached To Being An Younger/Heavier Player?
No. This has not been an issue in the past. Players generally bond fairly quickly with their teammates regardless of age and the coaches make every effort to make all players feel that they are an integral part of the team.
Age-Determination Examples
Born before July 31
If the player turns 11 before July 31, then that player will be designated as an 11-year-old and will play on one of the following three (3) teams:
- The Jr. Pee Wee team if he qualifies an older/lighter player (meaning that he is expected to be less than 94 pounds for the entire season).
- The Pee Wee team if he qualifies as a standard-weight player (meaning that he is expected to weigh more than 94 pounds, but less than 129 pounds for the entire season).
- The Jr. Midget team if he qualifies as a heavier player (meaning that he is expected to weigh more than 129 pounds for the entire season).

Born after July 31
If the player turns 11 after July 31, then that player will be designated as an 10-year-old and will play on one of the following two (2) teams:
- There is no older/lighter designation for the Mitey-Mites, so this player would play for the Jr. Pee Wee team if he qualifies as a standard-weight player (meaning that he is expected to be less than 129 pounds for the entire season).
- The Jr. Midget team if he qualifies as a heavier player (meaning that he is expected to weigh more than 129 pounds for the entire season).
or
Born after July 31
If the player turns 13 after July 31, then that player will be designated as a 12-year-old and will play on one of the following three (3) teams:
- The Pee Wee team if he qualifies as as older/lighter player (meaning that he is expected to be less than 109 pounds for the entire season).
- The Jr. Midget team if he qualifies as a standard-weight player (meaning that he is expected to weigh more than 109 pounds, but less than 144 pounds for the entire season).
- The Midget team if he qualifies as a heavier player (meaning that he is expected to weigh more than 144 pounds for the entire season).

Magic Birthdays
Clearly, players born in August have what are commonly referred to as "Magic Birthdays" because they are considered to be a full year younger than players who were born just a month earlier in July.
Weight-Designation Examples
Older/Lighter Designation
If your child is an older/lighter 11-year-old (meaning that it likely that he will weigh less than 94 pounds for the entire season), then he will play on the Jr. Pee Wee team with other "older/lighter" 11-year-olds and also the standard-weight 10-year-olds.
Standard-Weight Designation
If your child is a standard-weight 11-year-old (meaning that he will likely weigh more than 94 pounds, but less than 129 pounds for the entire season), then he will play on the Pee Wee team with the other standard-weight 11-year-olds and the older/lighter 12-year olds.
Younger/Heavier Designation
If your child is a heavier 11-year-old (meaning that he will likely weigh more than 129 pounds for the entire season), then he will play on the Jr. Midget team with the standard-weight 12-year-olds and the older/lighter 13-year olds.
Roster Placement of Younger-Heavier Players
Younger-Heavier Players are defined as those players whose age would warrant playing on a younger-level team, but whose weight requires the player to move up to a older-level team.
Under those circumstances, parents must be aware that younger-heavier players are not guaranteed a spot on the next higher-level team.
If your player is a younger- heavier player, you should contact the President of the Board as guidelines apply for young-heavier roster placement.
Generally, older-lighter and standard-weight players have preference with regard to roster placement on any given team. The younger-heavier players will only secure a spot on the next higher-level team if space is available and only at the sole discretion of the Board. This applies to all younger-heavier players.
Policy Against Cutting Weight for Football
This is a safety issue. The Central Marin Charger program does not recommend or condone the practice of "cutting" weight for the purpose of making a football team roster.
